Modern Null Modem Cable

A communication method by which 2 DTE’s like a computer-terminal, terminal-printer or computer-printer may be connected using a type of serial cable is called as null modem cable connection. This implies that one end of the connection is to a DTE and the other to a DCE (modem type). They transmit and receive signals that are cross linked. Since any null modem connection is not covered by a standard, several wiring layouts should be used.
When the user wishes to connect any two devices without an external modem it is called as null modem connection. The cable (RS-232) is also used along with a null modem adaptor which contains crosslink sequences between the signals.
Null modems have been divided into many types based on the presence of hardware handshaking used for the serial cable, like No hardware handshaking this is the simplest form of null modem. Loop back handshaking, this cable with handshaking could be used for more software.
Other types are partial handshaking, full handshaking and virtual null modem. Out of all these a virtual null modem is the one where two computer application devices are connected by a virtual serial cable port they have various advantages over the other cables it has a higher transmission speed, possibility of virtual connection over internet, absence in need of a serial cable and the host devices own ports remain free. By using the null modem cable swapping of signals is also possible.
